Press Release
“I had the goodest day in the whole life of me!”
The Mendocino County Health and Human Services Agency, Family and Children’s Services’ Willits and Fort Bragg Summer Activity Program has once again, sadly, come to a close until next summer. Children have headed back to school, and staff have unpacked the coolers and stashed away the sunscreen. This summer, for the second consecutive time, our Summer Activities Program was enhanced thanks to a very generous financial donation from Mike Ireton, owner of Willits Online.
155 participants, of which 100 were children, from the north county and coast areas, were treated to six fun filled days throughout the summer. In addition to our usual trips to the coast to McKerricher State Beach and CV Starr Aquatic Center and to Willits to the KOA Water Park and the City Pool, we were able to add two very special events: an exciting day at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo and a wonderful visit to the Exploratorium in San Francisco.
One six year old foster child told her social worker following one of the experiences, “I had the goodest day in the whole life of me!” It just doesn’t get any better than that. Thank you Mike Ireton and Willits Online for making this possible and making a difference in the lives of Mendocino County children and families.
For anyone interested in helping to support our future summer programs, please contact Family and Children’s Services Secretary, Lori Poma, at (707) 463-7919 for donation information.
