Improving the Safety and Health of Mendocino County Students through Safe Routes to School
Mendocino County Department of Transportation is developing its first countywide Safe Routes to School (SRTS) plan to serve schools in the unincorporated areas of the county. This plan will help County Staff and residents better understand the barriers and opportunities to support kids walking and biking to school and school bus stops throughout the County. The comprehensive SRTS plan will include strategies for improving walking and bicycling conditions near schools and provide a toolkit for schools and parents that are interested in supporting active and healthy kids in their community.
If you are interested in how SRTS can work in your community, review the County’s Draft SRTS Plan for tools and resources at http://mendocinosrts.weebly.com/srts-plan-outreach.html. Specific comments or questions about the plan will be accepted from February 17 until March 7, 2014 through the website or by contacting Alicia Meier, Mendocino County Department of Transportation, at meiera@co.mendocino.ca.us or (707) 463-4363.
