Volunteers Needed for the Community Garden at Yuki Trails Human Services!
The Community garden – Diabetic Garden is without funding this year, which means there is no hired garden staff to take care of the day to day planting, weeding, watering and harvest and distribution. Agreeing that this is a valuable project and resource to the community, Yuki Trails staff and volunteers are creating a new vision to keep a smaller version of the garden going while we search for other funding sources.
Right now the large north back field is planted in a cover crop which will be plowed under in the next week or two. Some volunteers have already donated seeds and starts and more are being planted daily.
The smaller east garden area is ready for planting now and there are 4 open beds available for community members who would like to make a commitment for their own garden. If there is interest, more individual beds may be opened up in the north garden area.
We will be having a planning meeting on Friday at 3 PM, starting in the YTHS Community room and wandering out to the gardens as well. If you cannot make the meeting but are still interested in taking some part – large or small – please contact Deb in the Yuki Trails front office at 983-6648.
Any supplies, tools, time and energy are welcome. A packet of lettuce seeds or a truck load of manure, a summer’s commitment or an occasional hour or two…it is all useful and welcome!
